Musical Philosophy
"I firmly believe that music is nourishment for the soul, and as musicians, we serve as carriers of this nourishment through our performances. Knowing that I, as a conduit for music, can heal and empower people is extremely fruitful and gratifying. The healing, liberating power of music fuels my desire to move the hearts of those I perform for. Whether it be on stage or through teaching young musicians, I wish to inspire others to follow their artistic dreams no matter what obstacles may hinder their progress. If I can help people find their light through art, then that is all that matters and all I could ever ask for."
About Me
Jorge Padilla believes in music’s power to nourish the soul through his passionate, expressive
vocal performances. Having sung a variety of musical genres, from opera and choral repertoire to
contemporary commercial music, Jorge proves to be an eclectic, versatile artist. With over six
years of concert experience, he graces the masses with his vibrant voice both in his hometown of
Philadelphia and overseas. Winner of the 2023 Shang-How Music Fund, Jorge performed in a
staged opera gala in Thessaloniki, Greece for the 9th Summer Music Performance Program ACT /
A Division of Anatolia College.
In the past year, Jorge was bass section leader for Trinity Episcopal Church in Swarthmore, PA,
in which he provided musical leadership and performed frequently as a soloist. He was also a
member of Epiphany Singers, a Philadelphia-based non-profit choir for young professional
artists seeking to perform advanced vocal repertoire. With this ensemble, Jorge was featured in a
choral music album on Spotify titled Sing Me a Love Song and in the international drama debut
film Le Meilleur du Monde by Marion Standefer. Jorge is also a published independent singer-
songwriter with original works that have amassed thousands of streams across the globe.
Aside from performing, Jorge spent the last year teaching voice, piano, and drums at Breaking
the Barrier School of Music, a small music studio in Aston, PA that provides high-quality music
lessons to kids, adults, and people with special needs. Jorge’s love for the dramatic expression of
the voice also led him to freelance opportunities in voice acting. He served as an audiobook
narrator for Ruby Nazaruk's A Trail of What If’s and Love, a narrator for a Netherlands-based
YouTube Channel called Somer Himpson, and a speaker and actor for an NBCUniversal Creative
Impact Lab Series commercial. In this last project, Jorge was praised by the PhillyCAM filming
team for his clear diction, resonant voice, and for being an easygoing, diligent collaborator.
Jorge is currently pursuing his M.M. in vocal performance and pedagogy from the Peabody
Institute of the John’s Hopkins University under the tutelage of Randall Scarlata. He received his
B.A. in peace and conflict studies, music, and environmental studies from Swarthmore College,
where he studied voice with Lara Nie. Jorge’s diverse educational background informs the deep
layered meanings underlying his original works and allow him to make cross-disciplinary
connections to his music. Having conducted research on the biomechanics of classical voice
production at his alma mater, Jorge is expanding his knowledge of the voice to apply it to his
teaching and his future performances.
